How are you?
The past few months of isolation have definitely been tough.
For many of us, our routines have been knocked, finances have taken a hit and overall morale has been low. But it wasn’t all negative. Being in isolation has allowed us to spend more time with those closest to us. To reach out and connect with family and friends when we otherwise wouldn’t find the time. And, most importantly, to reflect. Reflect on our lives, reflect on what’s most important to us, reflect on our happiness and reflect on issues that have long been overlooked.
During isolation, I was in between jobs, which gave me time to recharge. I really enjoyed the slower pace to my days; going on a walk to get a take-away coffee, enjoying a long lunch break to get my Gilmore Girls fix, rediscovering my love for baking and getting 8 hours of sleep a night. But what it also gave me was time to refocus on my work. I spent a lot of hours on my blog; writing and creating content, and I also finally got around to doing a services page for my freelance work, of which I am very proud of. But ultimately it led me to ask myself two things:
Is what I’m doing adding value?
And is it still making me happy?
Creating & Connecting
My blog has been live for over 7 years now and during that time I have always wanted to maintain the same upload day each week. But whether I was too busy with work and life in general – or whether I wasn’t prioritising my blog enough – I never could.
For a large portion of those years, I have also had my blog’s Instagram account. An extension of my brand; my Instagram account challenges me to be creative and allows me to connect with likeminded people. It has also always been the place where most of my readers come from and is the platform I spend the most time on.
While in isolation, I had time to think more deeply about a few things that had been on my mind for a while: (a) the platform I create the most content for is Instagram, not my blog and (b) some of the content I was putting out was lazy and was neither adding value or making me happy.
After running The Editor’s Style the same way for years, I decided it was time for a change. I put together a content plan full of ideas that I could turn into well-crafted blog posts. I changed up my Instagram feed, removing any content that I didn’t enjoy creating and promoting – which has pushed me to think much more creatively. After a poll on my Instagram stories, I decided that Monday is the day I publish a new blog post each and every week. I have also made more of a conscious effort to inject my personality into my blog and social media channels; I want these to be spaces where genuine relationships can be built and meaningful conversations can take place.
Simply put, I am making the shift to having a more valuable impact through The Editor’s Style and I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
