2019 was many things for me; a new beginning in a new city; a new sense of responsibility moving out of home and beginning full-time employment; and a new opportunity to focus on myself, my health and what makes me happy. Overall, 2019 has been a year of growth – possibly my biggest year of growth yet. And while the bad and lonely times were of abundance, I think I’ve come out of this year better for it.

My highlights of 2019

While it may seem slightly narcissistic to round up my own personal gains and successes of the year, I’ve learnt that I tend to move through life too fast; forgetting to give myself praise for achieving my goals and taking joy in the moment.

01. MOVING TO MELBOURNE

Making the move to Melbourne will always be something that I remember as my first big step. It had always been in the roadmap, but to finally make the move to a city with a much faster pace in life and with many more opportunities was the dream!

02. DISCOVERING MY LOVE FOR INTERIOR DECOR

Moving out of home definitely ignited my passion for interior design (see my How To Style A Minimalist Home series: Part I and Part II). And I’m definitely keen to focus on this more in 2020.

03. ADDRESSING MY HEALTH

After years of suffering with my skin and overall general health, the move to Melbourne was probably the final straw. I decided to take charge of my health and realised that it was definitely something I wanted to invest in now so that I can be healthier later on in life. I have been seeing a naturopath regularly for some months now. And with a change of diet and lifestyle habits as well as the addition of natural medication, I have already started to notice a difference.

04. REDISCOVERING MY LOVE FOR WRITING

In 2019, I started to get a little more serious about my writing on The Editor’s Style. I have done a few long-form articles, featuring reviews and interviews for a more in depth read that hopefully continues to spark thought and discussion. Some of my favourites are:

Setting intentions for 2020

As a goal-oriented person, I always struggle with the fact that I can never stick to my New Year’s resolutions. I did tick a few things off of last year’s resolutions, but nowhere near all of them! So this year, I’ve decided to set a few life intentions for myself that have nothing to do with my fitness regime or how many books I plan to read. I’m setting these intentions so that I can have a change in mindset and move in the direction I want to take my life in.

01. BE BETTER WITH MY FINANCES

For me, having my own business makes my finances and taxes a little more complex than the average person’s. In 2019, I took the first steps in getting better at my finances by having a set budget and organising my bank accounts. This year, I’m focusing more on managing my tax and saving money.

02. FOCUS ON MY CAREER

My goal for 2019 was to work less and prioritise myself and my health and I’m happy to say I did this. My energy levels, sleeping pattern and time to myself have all improved, so much so that I’m feeling motivated and ready to dive back into more freelance work – but this time with balance.

03. ATTEND MORE EVENTS

A big goal I have for myself is to attend more events, whether it be for socialisation or professional networking. As an introvert, this is something that I can really struggle with. A few events that come to mind are: VAMFF, MFW, NGV events and Work-Shop classes.

I would love to hear what your 2019 achievements were and what your 2020 intentions are. Let me know in the comments below! X
