A new year means new challenges, new hobbies and new ventures. In 2019, I’m challenging myself to write in a creative environment more often, rather than just for work. Taking inspiration from my favourite bloggers, I’ve decided to do a monthly journal. This will be a place where I document my life, but will also hopefully be helpful for you in terms of cafe recommendations, beauty favourites and trends I’m boycotting.
This month’s journal is coming to you a little late, but there’s a very good reason for that – I’m moving to Melbourne! For the past month, I have been focused solely on finding a place to live, buying furniture and getting a job – moving definitely isn’t as romanticised as I once thought. So here it is, my January journal. Let me know what you think in the comments!
PLACES I’VE VISITED
ST ROSE – 19 Rose Street, Essendon
While in Melbourne on one of our trips to secure a place, we went to a little cafe in Essendon called ST ROSE. Not only is it one of the cutest cafes I’ve ever stepped foot in, but their food looks absolutely incredible (Maple Ricotta Pancakes anyone?) I’ll definitely be heading back here once I’m all settled in!
SIR DUKE – 99 Puckle Street, Moonee Ponds
So, apparently the only places I visited that were of note this month are cafes (whoops). Another Melbourne find, I was first sucked in by the dusty rose colour of their logo, but then I saw the menu. I ordered the fried chicken sweet potato waffles with poached eggs, hollandaise + apple slaw – I’m not even sorry.
MONDAY’S COFFEE STORE – 7/38 Gawler Place, Adelaide
I’ve always heard such great things about this place and the coffee but for some reason I’d just never got around to going. But my goodness is this great coffee! Definitely one of my favourite coffee places in Adelaide – others include: FIX. Specialty Coffee and Exchange.
This month I received my first Vogue Magazine from my subscription (a Christmas gift from my parents) and I can’t believe how inspired reading one mag can make you. I think I’ll be creating a new moodboard from torn out pages each month!
VERSO BLEMISH FIX WITH RETINOL 8
I’m currently testing out this Verso beauty, which so far is going really well! I’m only halfway through week 2 and the real results will kick in after 3 weeks, so I’ll keep you posted.
Heading to Melbourne always calls for a shopping trip and since I went three times last month…well I did some damage. To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Camilla and Marc released a range of limited edition tees. I bought two because I’m a sucker for C&M AND tees – stay tuned for an outfit post to see which ones I got!
January is my birthday month and with that comes a mini freak out that I’m not achieving as much as I would like. Going forward, I’m trying to focus on working more efficiently (without the distractions of background noise such as Netflix or vlogs) and hopefully I will achieve more in less time. It’s already working out pretty well, so fingers crossed this isn’t one of those new year fads!
I’m also focusing on taking better care of myself. Being the workaholic that I am, I don’t always eat the most nutritious diet (fun fact: being self employed and not wanting to waste money on food is a sure way to eat right and lose weight!) I’m beginning each morning with a smoothie or a juice made from fresh fruits and vegetables, followed by a coffee. It’s the perfect way to start the day and I don’t feel gluggy or overly full.
NEXT MONTH’S GOALS
In February I’m moving into my new house! I hope to get all my living spaces completely furnished, with only a few finishing touches left. Other than that, I hope to finish updating my blog (have you noticed any changes?) and finally secure a job!
I’d love to know what you got up to in January below! x
