Getting To Know Aussie Brand Lux Aestiva
I first heard about jade rollers earlier this year, but it was only when I (finally) tried one for myself that I jumped on board the trend. Known for tightening and depuffing skin well enough to fake a good night’s sleep, jade rollers work to promote lymph drainage (increasing circulation to release toxins from the skin) – which for my problematic skin is essential in minimising my breakouts. I also find that the cooling sensation of a jade roller is great for reducing redness, helping with congestion issues and tension headaches (which I get a lot of!)
When looking for a jade roller, I wanted a brand that produced a quality product made from real jade – those Ebay and Amazon ones weren’t going to cut it! Queensland beauty and lifestyle brand Lux Aestiva is amongst the few Aussie brands to create beautiful jade rollers that will actually work. The name Lux Aestiva is Latin for ‘summer time’ and the brand exists to create products that are good for the skin, with a focus on vegan, sustainability and cruelty free. I chatted with the woman behind the brand Katie Blyth who told me a little bit more about her luxurious brand, as well as providing a step-by-step guide on how to use a jade roller.
Tell me a little bit about Lux Aestiva and why you created it.
Lux Aestiva creates vegan and 100% natural hair and skincare products (plus some homewares too). All of our products are natural, ethically sourced and made in small batches.
Lux Aestiva start in 2015 when I was 28 years old and working in hair dressing (which I had done for over 11 years). Having been exposed to numerous hair and beauty products throughout my career, I constantly felt like there was a gap in the market for natural products that looked great in bathroom cabinets and actually worked. As fate would have it, I toyed with the idea of creating a hair care product, and from that, Lux Aestiva was born.
Why is it important to you that Lux Aestiva exists ethically and sustainably?
Lux Aestiva prides itself on manufacturing the highest quality products housed in environmentally friendly packaging. Lux Aestiva never tests on animals and you’ll never find any nasty or synthetic ingredients in any of our products. The products you see today are a result of long hours of research and time invested into ensuring the brand’s, as well as the industry’s, high standards are being met. And that has probably been the biggest challenge for me whilst creating this brand; being able to source ethical, high quality ingredients and packaging.
As a beauty manufacturer, I feel like I owe it to my customers and to the industry to be fully transparent and genuine in regards to where our products are made, who they are made by, and exactly what ingredients each product contains and why. Lux Aestiva will never be able to take over the mass produced, plastic packaged, low price point products currently dominating the market. And I don’t want it to! I simply want to carve out our own niche market, where people feel a connection to the brand, where every single product has been lovingly created in small batches from scratch and where hands-on customer service exceeds expectations. In the future I hope that this dedication to providing this aspect of their brand will inspire others to make changes in the beauty industry; from eradicating animal testing, to using only natural (not synthetic) ingredients, to charity donations and giving back – I believe any change is good change!
Why do you think jade rollers are an important step in our skincare regime? And why do you personally love them?
Whilst Jade rollers might seem gimmicky, they are actually a brilliant way to de-puff your face and calm your skin. Jade rollers have been around for hundreds of years – they’re a traditional Chinese anti wrinkle and anti aging beauty tool that has been used for thousands of years to promote youthful appearances and smooth skin. This time-honoured traditional practice has been handed down through generations and has stood the test of time due to its highly effective skin benefits. They truly are like a massage for your face and whilst they have great skin benefits, it’s a great night-time ritual for de-stressing too!
Katie’s step-to-step guide on how to use a jade roller
- Firstly, try to keep your Jade Face Roller in the refrigerator.
- Start out by cleansing your face (our new Constellations Cleansing Oil can help you with this)!
- Next, apply a small amount of serum or oil to your face (I normally recommend the Lux Aestiva’s Wildflower Oil for the Face).
- Then slowly roll the Jade Roller in an upward motion over face, ensuring not to be too aggressive in your movement. It is best used slowly, taking the time to rub away any tension and stress and allowing the jade to cool the face. Apply gentle pressure while rolling the jade over face which will assist in sweeping away toxins and balancing excess fluid.
- Touching jade increases the luster and richness of the stone, so don’t feel like you have to clean your Jade Roller every time you use it. Instead, wipe it with a soft cloth after using and clean it only when you feel a clean is necessary (best cleaned without any chemicals, just a bit of soap and water).
